3: Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life;
he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
Ever wanted to say something really scathing and hurtful to someone, just because that person has done something to you or said something to you that made your ego bleed? That’s really all it is. You want to do that because of your prideful ego. I know this, because I apparently have one too. I guess it is a human trait. Go figure! I am human after all.
And oh those moments are there more often than we would like to admit.
But wrath is of God. Not ours.
Romans 12:19-20 “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
You therefore do His will by monitoring your words and in doing so you preserve your life. Plus spread the light and goodness of Him. And not let in anger and retaliation and room for more nastiness to follow.
Isn’t it true? Let’s say your neighbor took out that one bush out of your yard that is so beautiful and was so special to you. He did that because it hung over onto his side of the yard. And oh boy….you imagine three million ways to smack/kill/attack and mutilate him…right?
Now…wouldn’t your reaction be expected? How would it make him feel if you were to wash his car the next time you wash yours? How baffled would he be? Would it make him feel awful that he had done what he did? It doesn’t make you look like a doormat. You are rising above the occasion…showing God’s mercy and grace. Now if he knows you are a Christian..he will glorify God. And that is exactly what we are supposed to be doing. And if he doesn’t know..he will probably start to wonder why you are so odd. He might even ask you what had gotten into you! Tadaaa! Opening to talk about the Lord and his mercy and grace.
Matthew 5:16 ” Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
So yes, be weird, be odd, be different. That is what sets you aside from the world.
Embrace the weirdness and make it ART!
