Are you a SOAPIE?
No I am not asking you if you watch soap operas on tv. The SOAPIE I am talking about is a way of Bible study and/ or Bible journaling/ Bible art. It is what I am. A SOAPIE 🙂
(Yes, praying for guidance before you open your Bible is highly recommended 🙂
Where and how to start? Here are some tips:
Google for a Scripture writing plan. There are many out there which will give you a verse relevant to the theme of that month.
Or just select a random chapter/verse. God has something to say in every line of the Bible so you can’t go wrong.
What did I just read? Read it again 🙂
What does God say to me? If he took the grand tour of your life, what would He suggest?
Visualize that. When you “see” the result before you begin, it really helps achieving that.
For bible art: you can take the text literally or let your creative brain find some association.
Literally: when God separated the sea through Moses: draw a pathway with waves on each side. Association: “cleanse my heart”: draw a heart inside of a washing machine 🙂
What exactly am I going to do with what came out of observation?
Focus: what exact area of my life could use improvement?
Praise Him for who He is and what He has done. (A great study right there).
Ask Him for guidance in acting on what you have just learned about yourself.
Praise Him some more 🙂 King David wrote super great examples in the book of Psalms for inspiration.
Make a plan! What came out of application? (Anger management? Be more helpful?)
Give yourself a couple of days and see how you do. Set a goal. Experience the change in you and around you and be flabbergasted! It helps to achieve your goals 🙂
After the period of time you had set for yourself or after finishing your bible writing plan, look back and see how you have changed or even changed others! How gratifying would that be? That is being His light on this planet. How you treat others by His instruction and love. Awesome!
Using a journal to track your walk would be more than perfect. Also you can use the same journal to create your art. Sometimes a picture says more than words and it will help you remember later on where you were at that time in your life. When you do this more often, you will also see how your drawing/ painting/ however -you-express it has improved. Plus is is a LOT of fun! Always gratifying! Win-win!
For awesome faith based doodles, I highly recommend this site by Sue! She is a sweetheart and I just want to show her some love. She makes the coolest doodles/drawings and makes it easy for you to recreate them! She has been and is a huge inspiration to me. She started me (unknowingly) to add art to my Bible studies. If you ever read this Sue, thank you so so much!
Have fun and remember there are no exams, no one looking over your shoulder to tell you, you wouldda, shouldda couldda. You also don’t have to be Picasso or Rembrandt…you draw and paint for YOU. Not a big audience.
God is watching and He wants a relationship with you and show you what a true rich life looks like. Your Father in heaven loves you and allows you to learn by trying, failing, starting over again. I can’t walk on water either (I know..shocking) and by the end of my life I still won’t be perfect. In my human eyes. The cool thing is that He sees you as perfect, because you are covered by Christ! So we work on showing Christ to the world around us. Be the light and salt of the earth. Christ asks us to do so. Oh, how rewarding it is to learn His ways! So start shining, dear one! Become a SOAPIE!
